I am Mamsell Su - Dolls and Pattern, doll maker and storyteller

Hej, I am Susanna.

..but as soon as I pick up needle and thread, I transform into Mamsell Su, doll maker and storyteller. It’s no longer a coincidence for me that my path has led me here.

I discovered early on that creativity has a special power. It sustained me, even through challenging times. Creating a perfect, magical fantasy world where I sew dolls and tell stories isn’t just an escape for me, but a path to empowerment and healing.

For me, handcrafting means not only creating something with my hands, but also creating a small world full of joy, imagination, and possibilities. It’s my wish to inspire others to experience the magic of creativity for themselves – no matter where they are in life.

The combination of dollmaking and storytelling is like a language of its own for me, with which I want to express feelings and encourage others. It’s my way of creating small worlds that bring joy, comfort, and inspiration. And I firmly believe that creativity can connect us all.

For me, it’s all about the joy of making, the power of imagination, and the little miracles that arise when you create something of your own with heart and soul.
Whether you enjoy sewing, love stories, or are simply looking for a little bit of magic in your everyday life, I’m glad you’re here.❤️

..and then came irma

When my daughter Irma was born, I discovered sewing. At that time, many people were starting creative and sewing blogs, and that inspired me greatly. I discovered that sewing wasn’t as difficult as I thought, and it brought me great joy!

Since I’ve always loved writing, I started my own blog in 2014 called ..and then came irma. Irma didn’t stay alone for long, though, and soon Ruby joined.
No question, that was way too long for a blog name, so I named my creative blog after myself: Mamsell Su, a nickname given to me by dear colleagues from my time as a waitress.

It’s wonderful to create something beautiful with your own hands. Being inspired to create something and bring it to life according to your own ideas – it’s like performing magic. So my DIY and sewing projects increasingly took on the form of little personalities: rag dolls, stuffed animals, and stories waiting to be told.

Dear Cousin stories

Miss Kitten was my first doll. The little girl flew along with a handful of balloons and swept me into a world of fantasy. There, I also met the friendly rag doll Anneli and her friends. Little by little, I learned more and more about these charming rag dolls and their home country, Sweden.

As a Swede born in Austria, I find it fascinating to learn more about Swedish traditions and customs. I’m particularly fascinated by the reasons for celebrating festivals and the myths surrounding them. Sweden, with its stories of elves, trolls, and magical creatures, offers an inexhaustible source of inspiration.

I’m now a mother to three wonderful children and have realized that patchwork isn’t just a sewing project. Our lives aren’t a single, magnificent design, they’re made up of many pieces and patches. Some fit perfectly, and some pinch uncomfortably. At the end of the day, though, the pinch less and less when you don’t take life so seriously.

So I invite you to take a deep breath, forget your everyday life for a moment, and allow yourself to be enchanted a little. Here you are among friends, surrounded by creativity and kindness. Together we create beautiful things, embrace our inner child, and believe in the magic that makes life truly extraordinary.

It is a special kind of magic that comes to life when we create something by hand. Whether it's wood, fabric, clay, or thread, every material holds a world of possibilities, waiting for us to touch it and bring it to life. The creative proces - from the first spark of inspiration to the final creation - is a journey of discovery, patience, and freedom.
Creativity is a source of healing, joy, and inner balance. It nourishes our soul and makes our lives richer and more meaningful. Through creative expression, we constantly learn and grow beyond our limits. We try new things, overcome challenges, and evolve.
Every piece we create carries a story - a piece of our heart, our dedication, and our creativity. It is a tangible manifestation of our vision, a dance between imagination and skill. Time seems to slow down as we fully immerse ourselves in the moment, connected to the materials and a deeper part of ourselves. And this intimate moment can be shared with others.
Creativity knows no boundaries. It brings people together from all over the world, regardless of age, background, or lifestyle. Whether we sew, craft, build, sing, or dance, we create communities bound by shared interests and mutual support. We learn from one another, inspire each other, and cultivate a warm and positive atmosphere.
This awareness fosters a sense of gratitude and respect for craftsmanship. Where creativity thrives, we grow, expand our perspectives, stay curious, and recognize the unfamiliar as a source of inspiration.
Together, we can make the world a more beautiful and welcoming place.
